Excel Lesson 3 Terms

  1. Absolute Refrence-A cell reference in an Excel formula that doesn't change when you copy the formula to another cell or range.
  2. Arguments-Inputs such as numbers, text, cell references, or logical values that are used in Excel functions to perform calculations.
  3. AutoFilter-An Excel feature that enables you to applya filter to a list in orded to display a subset of data.
  4. Discussion comments-Comments that are displayed with an Excel workbook but stored on a discussion server.
  5. Discussion Server-A computer that stores discussion comments.
  6. Fill handle-In Excel, the small, black square located in the lower-right corner of a selected cell or range that you can use copy a value or formula to adjacent cells.
  7. Filter-In Excel, a feature that allows you to display a sebset of data in a list on a worksheet.
  8. Formula Bar-The long white bar above the column headings in an Excel worksheet that you can use to enter or edit cell data.The formula displays the contents of the active cell.
  9. Function-A predefined formula in Excel that performs a specific, built in operation.
  10. Relative reference-In Excel, a cell reference in a formula that automatically adjusts to the new location when you copy the formula to another cell or range.
  11. Syntax-The structure for entering functions and commands, including spelling,punctuation, and acceptable keywords.
  12. Thread-A set of discussioms comments and responces that are grouped and displayed in hierarchical order.
  13. Wizard-An automated tool that helps you perfomrm a task by presenting step-by-step content and organization choices.

Excel vocabulary




  1. Active cell-The cell that is selected.

  2. Cell-The intersection of a row & a column.

  3. Column-Alphabetic form A-Z & so on.

  4. Find-A command that searches for specified text & formatting in a document.

  5. Formula-Calculation.

  6. Label-Text.

  7. Range-Is a group of two or more cells taht may or may not be contagious.

  8. Replace-A command that searches for specified text & replaces it with new text.

  9. Row-Numbered from 1-65,536
  10. Value- Numbers

  11. Workbook-The information you enter in Excel is stored in this file.

  12. Worksheet-Is a grid of rows & columns in which you enter & edit data.

13.Freeze Panes - An excel feature that enables you to freeze rows & columns that are above & to the left of the selected cell so that they remain fixed while scrolling the worksheet.

14.Print titles- Repeated row or column labels that appear on each page of a printed Excel worksheet.
